Publisher’s Description:

A trio of second-born daughters set out to break the family curse that says they’ll never find love on a whirlwind journey through the lush Italian countryside by New York Times bestseller Lori Nelson Spielman, author of The Life List.

Since the day Filomena Fontana cast a curse upon her sister more than two hundred years ago, not one second-born Fontana daughter has found lasting love. Some, like second-born Emilia, the happily-single baker at her grandfather’s Brooklyn deli, claim it’s an odd coincidence. Others, like her sexy, desperate-for-love cousin Lucy, insist it’s a true hex. But both are bewildered when their great-aunt calls with an astounding proposition: If they accompany her to her homeland of Italy, Aunt Poppy vows she’ll meet the love of her life on the steps of the Ravello Cathedral on her eightieth birthday, and break the Fontana Second-Daughter Curse once and for all.

Against the backdrop of wandering Venetian canals, rolling Tuscan fields, and enchanting Amalfi Coast villages, romance blooms, destinies are found, and family secrets are unearthed—secrets that could threaten the family far more than a centuries-old curse.

My Review:

The Star-Crossed Sisters of TuscanyThe Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany by Lori Nelson Spielman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When it comes time to watch the movie of your life, may tears run down your face, may you scream with laughter and cringe with embarrassment. But for Goddess’s sake, do not let your life story be one that’s so dull you fall asleep during the viewing.

This was an adorable, fun read. Family curses, family drama, deep dark secrets of the past, a love story of old that we get to see come full circle.

There’s a 200-year-old curse in the Fontana family, one that Emilia figured out when she was a little girl in school, looking at the branches of her family tree. No 2nd born daughters going back 200 years have ever been married. Emilia happens to be a 2nd born daughter.

There was a lot to love about this book. First off was this relationship between Emilia and her estranged Aunt Poppy. These ladies were magic on the page together. Aunt Poppy talks Emilia into taking a trip to Italy where she’s finally going to break the curse, once and for all. Well, you know pretty early on that the book is going to break your heart just a little bit because Aunt Poppy is dying.

“I much prefer to say I’m living. Don’t you?

And break my heart it did, but this book ended so perfectly. The secrets that they were able to piece together, and Poppy finally, finally finding her handsome, violin playing Aleman (German). This story was exactly what I needed right now. Light, sweet, fun-loving. All the feels. An excellent Women’s Fiction read.
