Publisher’s Description:

Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.

When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.

Fast-paced, deliciously witty, and wholeheartedly authentic in depicting the frustrations and triumphs of motherhood in all its messiness, hilarity, and heartfelt moment, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is the first in a brilliant new series from YA Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano.

This book was just what I needed right now. It was suspenseful, it was hilarious, and I found myself wondering how anyone could get themselves into so much craziness, genuinely without even trying!

Finlay Donovan is a mystery novelist with a looming deadline and a killer case of writer’s block. I mean, who can blame her, what, with her husband having just left her for a blonde realtor who seems quite content with rubbing the whole thing in Finlay’s face, AND the two of them wanting full custody of Finlay’s kids. The nerve of some home-wrecking people.

But you know I always love a good girl-power story, and the way Fin and Vero, the nanny that ex-husband just tried to fire, back each other up like ride or die pals when they were backed against the wall, they really made a power-duo. They were smart, witty, and had a serious case of sheer dumb luck.

What was great about this book, aside from the hilarious plot that was actually good enough to be taken seriously, was definitely the characters. The ones you’re meant to like and the ones you really, really weren’t, and even some in-between. The hot, law-school bartender. The hot, clueless detective. But in the midst of it all, that Finlay Donovan was just so much fun to follow around for a couple of days. I hope to see more like this from Elle Cosimano because she definitely killed it on this one.
