Publisher’s Description:

I’m supposed to be the Alpha’s mate. Screw that.

Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing—the Alpha’s Mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf.

Instead of waiting for him to figure out I’m an abomination, I left on my fifteenth birthday. But I didn’t go far. No way in hell would I let fate drive me from the town I love.

Ten years later, I’m still hiding in plain sight. When I occasionally see him on the street—deadly, sexy, powerful–I just walk by. Keep my head down.

Until that night. Wrong place, wrong time, and suddenly I’m accused of murdering someone from my old pack. And he’s there. Blaming me. I’ve got one chance to prove my innocence and find the real killer, or I’m dead by shifter law.

Fortunately, the Alpha doesn’t recognize me because I’m no longer the same ugly duckling. He senses I’m special though, and he won’t stop until he figures out the truth. But when he does, I’ll be in danger from more than just the murderer.

My Review:

Darkest Moon (Shadow Guild: Wolf Queen #1)Darkest Moon by Linsey Hall
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What I love about books by this author is that the characters are so full of personality, they each have their own unique talents and quirks, and the worldbuilding is fantastic.

So why only a 3-star review on this one? I’m used to epic, and this one fell just a tad bit flat. Does that mean I won’t continue this series? Nope, I fully intend to continue on because there is huge potential in this series and I just know this author is going to deliver.

Let me just say, this book was not bad. There’s always action and movement and story progression. There’s always big bad alphas and super strong females. This book was no exception! I just felt like right when the story started really taking off, it ended (on a cliffhanger, but, I mean, book 2 is already out, so…).

Eve is a shifter who is the fated mate of the alpha, but for reasons, she left a long time ago and changed just about everything about herself to be unrecognizable because apparently Lachlan the alpha was not a nice kid back in the day. Eve is sassy and strong and smart. She’s learned magic that makes her appear, for all intents and purposes, as though she’s fae rather than a shifter. Pointy ears, wings, and scent to boot.

But in the early chapters, an inciting event happens that leads her straight back into Lachlan’s path, and not only does she have to prove her innocence, she also has to make damn sure he doesn’t find out who she really is.

Let’s see how things play out on this series.
