4/16/19: Ok, so let’s talk about this book because I was so enthralled, so in love with it that when I finished this behemoth and thought I’d start one of the other books lined up in my April TBR (and I tried, believe me, I did!!!), I finally gave in and picked up Book 3, the even bigger behemoth, and haven’t been able to put it down.
Can I just say that this book went in swinging and didn’t stop until the very last page. I was constantly enraptured by each turn of events, every scene, every character. It’s such an intricately woven story, layered upon layered with threads all leading to one big, climactic point sometime in the future, and it just keeps you mesmerized needing to know what happens next. Things are just constantly moving and constantly happening, you are compelled to keep reading to keep up and find out what happens next.
The way that Feyre was so broken and dead inside after Under the Mountain and all that happened there in Book 1. The way that this was likened to “Sleeping Beauty” and how she came to finally be awakened by her prince charming, who was maybe a little expected but then again not really. The gradual rebuilding of her, piece by piece, was so subtle and yet so powerful.
Then there’s Tamlin and Rhys. Ugh… how do I do this without spoilers? One of them was so damn horrible, controlling, awful, while the other … ohhh the other. I’m a sucker for a valiant and worthy Hero, and the other was all that and so much more. So. Much. More.
The ending of this book had me on pins and needles, dying inside, devastated, until the very last possible moment that revealed what was really going on and it literally had me squealing in excitement and relief and a rather deep desire to find out what happens next.
This is seriously a series I wish would be made into a TV series like Game of Thrones. It would undoubtedly be just as widely adored and well-received.
